Art Biography
FOLLOWING CAREERS IN PRINTED TEXTILES AND TEACHING, CHRISTINE NOW LIVES IN EAST SUSSEX
She is happiest drawing and painting from her home and garden in Cross-in-Hand.
Much of Christine’s artwork is inspired by the beautiful scenery of the South Downs and coastland. She enjoys the challenge of creating tone and atmosphere in monotone and loves the immediacy of fine pens to describe the flow, texture and pattern of the landscapes and landmarks. These graphic images are then further personalised with her own style of decorative foliage.
Christine also makes detailed fine-line pen drawings of botanical subjects: flowers, vegetables and fruits, including autumn chestnuts. She colourwashes the images with permanent inks to fully describe the beauty of the natural form.
Christine draws and paint houses and their gardens to commission. Wherever possible, distance allowing, Christine will visit your home to get a sense of the place and to agree a favourite view for the portrait. She will discuss the scale of the artwork and possible time restraints. She will then take lots of photos as reference for working on the portrait at home. If distance prevents a personal visit, Christine can work from a photograph of the client’s choice. Christine is extremely versatile and has been commissioned to capture various other subjects, such as house interiors and dragonflies!
Christine is happy to take commissions.
