Jon Gubbay has been a professional artist for more than 20 years after qualifying as an interior designer and a long career in graphics. His work has been extensively shown in London at St Katherines Docks and in recent years in The Charing Cross Road and central Greenwich. He has been regularly exhibited at the Battersea Affordable Art Fair and in Rochester, Kent where he lives.
He paints using acrylic on box canvases utilizing a smooth palette knife style and a blend of strong but subtle colours to add a vitality to familiar scenes. He is mainly defined by his own interpretation of London, but also Venice within the cityscapes he has become known for. He tries to create a strong visual impact with a combination of colour and contrast and strong architectural themes. Recently he has embarked on a series of seascapes.
Jon was born in London where he has spent most of his life apart from two years in Australia. He moved to Rochester 15 years ago which explains his natural affinity with scenes of London.
